Design Guide
Design Advice
- Design for Anisotropy: FDM parts are inherently weaker in the Z-axis (vertical) due to layer adhesion. Orient your part so that functional loads are distributed along the layer lines (XY plane) rather than across them to prevent premature delamination under stress.
- Manage Overhangs & Bridging: Avoid overhang angles greater than 45° to minimize the need for support structures, which can leave rough surface scars. For internal gaps, keep bridge lengths under 10mm to ensure clean, sag-free extrusion without secondary support.
- Minimum Wall Thickness: Maintain a minimum wall thickness of 1.2 mm (typically 3x nozzle diameter) to ensure structural integrity and prevent gaps between perimeters. For fine vertical features, a minimum width of 0.8 mm is recommended to avoid brittle or unstable extrusions.
FDM 3D Printing Materials
Our FDM 3D printing materials feature a full range of thermoplastic filaments, including PLA, ABS, PETG, flexible TPU, PA (Nylon), PC, and ASA — ideal for prototyping, functional testing, and end-use parts.
ABS
Known for its strength, durability, and resistance to heat and impact, ABS is a popular choice for 3D printing functional prototypes and end-use parts. It's widely used in automotive, consumer goods, and industrial applications due to its toughness and versatility.

FAQs
Our FDM service supports a full range of thermoplastic filaments including PLA, ABS, PETG, flexible TPU, impact-resistant PC, durable PA (Nylon), and weather-resistant ASA. These materials are ideal for functional prototypes, custom jigs & fixtures, end-use parts, and projects requiring specific thermal, flexibility, or durability properties. If you need a specialty material not listed, select ‘Other’ on our quote page and we’ll source it for you.
Our standard FDM tolerance is ±0.2mm for most parts, with tighter precision down to ±0.1mm possible for smaller, less complex designs. Tolerances can vary based on part geometry, layer height, and material choice. For critical-fit parts, we recommend uploading your design files for a free expert review to confirm achievable tolerances for your specific project.
Standard FDM orders typically ship in 2–5 business days, depending on part size, quantity, and complexity. We also offer rush production options for urgent projects, with parts ready in as fast as 24–48 hours. For tight deadlines, mention your timeline in the quote notes and our team will prioritize your order.
Our FDM printers support a maximum build volume of up to 600 x 600 x 600 mm (23.6 x 23.6 x 23.6 in) for single large parts. For oversized designs, we can also print components in sections and assemble them post-production. If your part exceeds this size, our team can provide design recommendations to make it FDM-printable.
FDM is the perfect choice if you need durable, cost-effective parts for functional testing, low-volume production, or custom manufacturing aids. It excels with large parts, simple geometries, and projects using standard thermoplastics. If your project requires ultra-high detail, smooth surface finish, or complex internal features, we may recommend SLA or SLS instead — our experts can help you choose the best technology when you submit your design.
